Ayodhya is an ancient and holy city of India, located in the Faizabad district of Uttar Pradesh. It is on the right bank of river Sarayu, spread across 10 sq. km. and has a population of 75,000. The word ayodhya is Sanskrit for "not to be warred against".
Unfortunately, the district and its adjoining areas is plagued by the twin ills of poverty and illiteracy; hence the people tend to pay less attention to issues related to health and hygiene. In addition, there is a lack of quality health care facilities in the region especially eye care due to which the prevalence and incidence of blindness is quite high. In light of this, the Ayodhya Eye Hospital (AEH) was set up in October, 2002 with the mission of providing comprehensive eye care services to the underprivileged of Faizabad district and nearby rural areas (7 districts) covering approximately a total population of 16.2 millions. The hospital is managed by Mani Mandir Sewa Nyas Samiti (MMSNS), a society registered under the society’s registration act 1860.
